Whats the time by your watch?

Whats the time by your watch?

Humans are interesting beings. They love things to work their way. They try and alter every possible thing/ phenomenon/ rule as per their own will. The fixation with changing things runs so high, that people even try and make time run by their own set standards.

Lets say the time right now is 1800 hrs(6 pm). While your neighbour might have his watch set to the right time(6 pm), your close friend's watch from school/college/work might show the time to be 6:10 pm. On questioning your friend's decision of fiddling with nature's creation, he will simply say that changing time helps him stay punctual. The argument here is, that the individual who has reset his/her watch constantly knows through the day that time by their watch is a few minutes 'ahead' of actual time, so how does it really help the person be any quicker in life?

gud point prateek... but i guess the reason y people do tht is psychological...i mean they knw there watch is 10 mins ahead but visually ... actually seeing tht the tyms 5 and not 4:50 makes a person want to rush... i mean many tyms..tht is at least in my case i use the round figure 2 judge my actions ie i prefer getting up wen my watch shows a 5:00 am than a 4:55....and well if i knw tht it takes me 15 mins 2 get ready and i need 2 b off at 5:10 (actual tym) it makes more sense to me at tht early hour to rush at 5:00 than 4:55 :P

dunno how well i tried 2 say wat i wanted to...but i guess i did manage to get across a lil....well thts just 4 me though

and hey nice write up as usual...sumthing 2 analyse abt :)

I am one of the people mentioned in your article.. :)

I would say that yes it helps me stay punctual... it may be just in head as Aashi said.. but it does help. It generally leaves the question of last minute goof-ups that we tend to make.

Nice one..Again. :)

I don't understand the point. This has been intriguiing me right from my childhood.

Whenever you see for time, you would be knowing that you had adjusted time and you very well know that the time shown in the watch is absolutely wrong.

We are simply fooling ourselves into believing that we'r on time or a bit ahead of time.

The important thing is that our mind adapts to the new time. So in a few days we begin believing it as the actual time.. It is actually a really good time management tool too..

Why do people keep their watches ahead of the actual time (if there is a thing such as actual time) - The real, undisclosed, and the best kept secret since the UFO landings in Ramgadh.

A: 'Hey what's the time by your watch?'

B: '5:10, yours?'

A: Sly smile on this face. But in his mind -

'5:35, woaaah!! Time warp. Captain Carnage is speeding ahead in time leaving worm holes behind.

His lutetium metal armor forcefield suit is facing the brunt of travelling at speeds faster than light. He is catching up with the Zorkanfloids, who have stolen the precious metal Plixospot and will harness its power to destroy planet Earth.

Captain Carnage must save the day. Will our superhero overpower the Zorkanfloids and save the planet? Will the only hope of humanity fulfill his destiny?'

B: 'Hey, why are you smiling like a moron?'

A: 'Nothing.'

That's the real reason - (((((we all want to time travel and be superheroes))))) (the nested brackets highlight the secrecy of the statement.) You think I'm kidding don't you? Well, I am not.. because - (starts day dreaming with a sly smile on his face. Zorkanfloids - face the wrath of my subatomic laser ray gun.) :)
